Risk Management
Being prepared to face and manage risks is essential to any type of project development, and renewable energy projects are certainly no exception. Renewable energy projects often have a protracted period of at-risk investment. However, with the right project team, a project manager who is familiar with the associated risks should be able to incorporate risk mitigation into a successful management plan.
Risk factors, or sources of risk, fall into four main categories: Energy Production Factors, Other Revenue Factors, Ownership Allocation, and Other Project “Make or Break” Factors. Risk factors described in this table are the typical sources of risk within each of these categories, the project development phase in which a manager should address that risk factor, and key tools to help manage the associated risk.
